Peter O’Toole 1932-2013

Peter O’Toole has passed away after an illness.

Receiving his lifetime Academy Award in 2003, having been nominated eight times without bagging an oscar. After Meryl Streep’s introduction his warmth for the profession and love of acting shines through.

His daughter Kate spoke on behalf of the family:

‘His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.

‘In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished. We will be happy to speak to you all then but in the meantime if you could give Peter O’Toole the respect he deserves and allow us to grieve privately we’d appreciate it.

‘Thank you all again for your beautiful tributes – keep them coming.’

So two glasses raised today, on the second anniversary of Christopher Hitchens death and now to the dear departed and cinematic icon Peter O’Toole.

  1. Sad news. He was one of those actors who’se talent gets overlooked because they make it look effortless. Effortless-ness is bloody hard work, though. Putting on a couple of stone, or a fake nose, is easy in comparison.
